23 Hours Remaining
Of Boxing and Unboxing
We are in the stages of knowing that we are forgetting something and this is probably a good thing considering we have too much stuff anyway. Arriving in Alaska during the seasonal transition has us preparing for cold temperatures for the first few weeks. Then breakup which brings the melting snow, mud, and rain. After about six weeks spring will bring warmer days and we will need to change to summer gear.
A wonderful Warmshowers host is going to store our tires without studs and summer gear. We will ship our bulkier winter items back to our basecamp in Washington.
Rolling With The Process
Instead of fretting about what to bring on an expedition such as living a bike life for the rest of our days we are going to bring what we think we need and if some items are unnecessary then we will simply mail them back or donate them to someone in need. I would much rather over plan than find myself in a serious situation because of under planning.
Our bikes and gear are boxed. And soon we will be at the mercy of public transport to get it all to the destination. I am sure it will take a month or so to settle in to the fact that this is finally our new routine.
Curiosity…
For thirteen years Deborah and I have been saving and preparing for this moment and the shower of emotions right now leaves us curious, nervous, and excited about what the days will bring. The sense of wonder that only “living” can provide gives us courage to escape the dying that civilization produces.
We are excited to experience natural landscapes, meet fellow nomads, and people along the way. I am sure the bugs and stormy weather with give us a few moments of trepidation but that is to be expected.
The Ryan Van Duzer Creed…
Before we set of on the adventure it is very important to say…
