Cold Start and Dry Roads ~ April 17-19, #3
Early starts never seem to work out for us. A 7am start turned into a 10:30am departure. We were hoping to find a place to camp around seventeen miles along the way up Chena Hot Springs Road but a lot more people have moved out here since I was here last and we had to ride nearly 40 miles to reach a snowed under Rosehip Campground.
The thigh deep sugar snow did not offer an ideal circumstance to pitch our tent. However, a covered picnic area proved to be an ideal place to set up camp. Having to pitch in odd situations like this was one reason we had chosen our true freestanding Hilleberg Allak 3 and it is already earning its first badge.
Our time at Rosehip ended up being three nights before deciding to make the thirty mile push to the hot springs. While I still had service, I made our room reservations, giving us a wonderful setting to kickoff the official beginning of our bike life.
