Alaska - Strange Reunions

May 1, 2023

Nivaun has perfected the re-telling of our life journey, back to its early beginnings when he first left Alaska on a path of re-discovery crossing the lower 48 on foot and returning a year later on two wheels as far as Seattle to meet up with “destiny”.  Most often it is received with excitement and amazement, and frequently followed by an exchange of personal adventures. This time, it was our turn to be amazed.

The more we learned about our campground “neighbor”, we realized this was no chance meeting. Both he and Nivaun had lived in Kenai at the same time and were born a day apart, their young life experiences were more similar than different, and even more so into their early adult years.  He had even met Nivaun’s son just a couple years ago when interviewing for a job in Kenai.  It was quickly becoming apparent our neighbor was actually a long-lost “brother”; and our good fortune that he had arrived at the RV park early in the season for work at the nearby mine, just in time for our chance meeting.

Another day unfolded with no definite plan, yet it was clear we had landed right where we were supposed to be - even if Sarge and Sheila weren’t yet sure whether we were “space” invaders or not.

In the early morning before he left for work, we were greeted with a home-made hot breakfast plate straight from the tent kitchen and a couple treats to appease the fur-kids while we packed up our bikes.  Without a doubt, we agreed to stop over again for a longer visit on our way back from cycling up the Elliott highway.
